Rick,

The moment that ADAM ate the fruit, I believe, "the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons."Gen 3:7

Something instantaneously changed. Within a short period of time, God pronounces judgement, but at THIS point in time both Adam and Eve knew that they were naked and exposed. "It is more than probable that they were clothed in light before the fall, and when they sinned the light went out." (Barnhouse)

Whatever it actually was, this LOSS was palpable and prompted them to attempt to cover is aspect of their shame. It was an evidence of the brokenness that we all feel many times during our lives. It resulted in judgements and their being driven out of Eden, never to again partake of The Tree of Life.

Following this we see another principle:

"For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness."Rom 4:3

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."Joh 5:24

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."Joh 3:3

Born again, new life: Born once, die twice. Born twice, die once. However you describe it, the second birth come from God through active trust in The Son of God, Jesus The Christ.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."Eph 2:8-9

We were DEAD!

"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;"Col 2:13

To Rick Mentzer.

Adam and Eve's bodies went in the earth to replenish it within 1000 years. God said "the day you eat, you shall surely die."

2 Peter 3:8 shows a day to God is a 1000 years. This means no man or woman will live to a 1000 years. Adam died at 930 years old, he was 70 years short of a full day. This 70 years is where we today come to fulfill. God shortened the lifespan of man twice; 70-120 years.

So God is correct, Adam and Eve died in a day. There is a lot more I could say on this but to avoid boredom, I'll keep it short. God bless you
