Hi Glen. I didn't believe you to be a Roman Catholic - I answered your question in the way I thought you meant it, about the Roman Catholic Church having problems with 2 Maccabees.

However, to your other question: it is true that the 1611 KJV did have the Apocrypha in them, but it should be noted that it was placed between the Testaments & for historical reasons only, and usually with a note to speak of their non-inspired writing, that they should not be included into the Canon of Scripture & with several reasons (7, I believe) given for their spurious inspiration/authorship.

Unlike the RC Bibles & others which included the Apocrypha within testamental books. For reasons I can't fully verify, I understand that because of the sheer weight of Bibles in those days (up to 40 lbs), the Apocrypha was omitted, and in respect of the Bible printers, this was a boon, since their job became easier & they could sell the Apocrypha as a separate volume, thereby making a further profit. However, you may want to check out this aspect. Trust this better answers your question, Glen.

Glen Barbour - in Reply on 2 Maccabees 7

Chris,

I am not catholic! However, what I was referring too is that these books are not listed in the bible (66 books). It was originally in the old KJV bible 1610, but was removed. I do not believe in purgatory and praying for the dead.

Please read Acts 24:15 We can pray to God (Psalm 83:18) for his kingdom to come (Matthew 6:9,10).

Why? because we can pray that he resurrect our loved ones who have died (the ones we love so dearly)

John 5:28,29

Job 14:14,15

John 11:25
