Roman: Remember Romans 3:23 "All have fallen short of the Glory of God". So you can run to another country if you want. But you cannot hide from evil... Unless you stay in God's grace. To be truly safe one must rest in Yahweh's arms. One who truly knows Christ is never afraid of mankind. Do you know Jesus Christ? Call on Him now. He stands at the door waiting for an invite.

Kathy, the Proverbs are generally individual words of wisdom or proverbial truths, but sometimes we see some connections, as in Proverbs 16:2,3.

Verse 2: man's perception of himself & his actions will be deemed as correct & honourable but the Lord does not see as man does, for God weighs (or, takes into account, measures) the inner thoughts or motives of man.

In contrast we see in verse 3: when that man does not justify his actions by his own reckoning (v2) rather commits his works (his deeds, plans, designs) to the Lord, then even his thoughts (what man plans to do further as a result of first looking to the Lord) will be confirmed & established by the Lord.

The Truth here is that when the child of God first seeks the Lord, committing his actions to Him, then he can trust the Lord to bring it to pass even when he feels that he may be doing things from his own mind. The act of calling upon the Lord & trusting Him to work on one's behalf will mean that the Lord will also lead him throughout that endeavour.

Some associated Scriptures that give weight to this Truth are in: Psalm 37:4,5; Proverbs 3:5,6; Luke 12:30,31.

Scriptures regarding our thoughts: Romans 12:2; Philippians 4:8.

The Oxford dictionary has one definition of commit as "1. to hand over, as for safekeeping charge entrust: to commit a child to the care of its aunt. " That definition sounds more like what our Lord wants - us to hand over our plans or work for safekeeping - and to entrust Him for the outcome. It 's more Fatherly. When I saw this definition, I wanted to commit my plans to Him because I know they are in good hands. I now like the word instead of rebelling against it - I felt it was more like restricting freedom before.

i want to use this verse Proverbs 16:3 ' Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established' to assure me that my thoughts are kept appropriate, not so much that my human 'plans' will work out, but that the thoughts in my head will be pleasing to God, and come from God, and not primarily from my 'human' mind.

Any help with that, do you see that in this verse? What other verse(s) should i look at to be sure my thoughts are in line with His?

How do you understand the use of the word 'established' related to our thoughts?

When do we commit our ways is the angle I desire us to check out this portion of God ' 's Wisdom from. Pray and sit down and think. Come out with what you desire to do then before the implementation, HONESTLY SUBMIT it to God in prayer. Implement and see His hand at work ONLY when you receive the go ahead.

Does this mean if I put my thoughts on paper they aren 't established?

If I commit my works that is the things I do unto the Lord for His glory and not my own purposes then my thoughts, the things my mind dwells on, will be established.I won 't be constantly plagued by wicked thoughts from my past.

I'm not much of a planner, so I just tend to go with the flow, although my wife loves to plan ahead in a systematic way. God has given my family BIG dreams, and I'm assured according to Proverbs 16:3 that all that we have planned shall be established because we've submitted every dream to the will of God. What a great promise! Amen!

Proverbs 16:3- Brings out the fact that God is the overall authority. He is the final control in everything so by commiting to Him, is more like trusting Him or acknowledging Him as the final authority . And like the Good Book says when we trust Him we are radiant- we are sure our plans will suceed- we shall not be put to shame.
