I wonder if He meant the Sword of the Holy Spirit.. It fights ,It wins, It gives Insight.. and it has Power.. and so much more the Holy Spirit brings to us and the fight for our Nation and her foes.. It doesn't have to be said in Biblical Terms but it can have power and is stronger than the slickness of Satan..Just like a sharp sword .

Some times what Jesus said can be taken out of context. If you go to The Book of Revelation, the sword is the word, that comes from his mouth. We need to study more,in order to get the correct interpretation.

Gurjit Singh's comment on 2014-12-30 17:57:34:

Peace, sorrow, pain, greif, love, hate, happiness etc.are the limbs of this world made by God.We are attached to this world so we are in pain,we are in hate,we are in happiness etc.If our child is sick we are unable to sleep. But if the child of neighbour is sick we have no affect on us.The reason is we have strong attachment with our child and have no attachment with neighbour child. So this attachment causes us in greif or pain. Now the purpose of saint is not to change the system of world. They come here to detach us from world and to attach us wit God.The outer peace is temporary. It ends one day.The inner peace is permanent. So christ uses the sword of word, logous and prayer for cutting our attachments with worldly things and attaching us with internal gems like God through word.Saint always told us the way for getting inner peace not the outer peace. The sword is prayer for attaching with word and God and detaching with outer world.

Greetings my brothers and sisters, While it 's great many if u are trying to interpret the words of the gospel, ie christ, Ur all missing the simplicity in this teaching, Many a time jesus showed aggression and anger, He wasn 't dull to react to any injustice, Jesus smashed up a synagogue because the evil doers were profiting from Gods name.. He also stepped on a snake and killed it, So basically the sword thing really means wat it says, Fight the oppressors, deceitful tyrants and manipulators of the word of god

What a stupid statement Nora. Islam did not even exist like 400 years after the death of Christ.

As evident from his last word,"it is finished",his purpose was indeed. We either let our saviour to die or tortured him to death. This is how He bring sword to earth or in other words this is how we let the sword to came in.
Above all,He is the light;emblem of peace & love.At the same time one has to have the faith, which ask for the courage. The act He was seeking when He was being crucified.
