Could Moses have trained Joshua for possible scenarios for war? The key for the battle of AI was not just deception, but to quickly terminate a people who should not have been a contest for the Israelites in the first place. The city of AI faced the sun as it rose. They saw the sun as one of their high gods. Staring at their enemies only hurt their eyes. AI sent in their chariots, probably in a pincer movement with the greater number on one side to close a sweeping door on their enemies slaughtering them all with extreme prejudice. The closer Israelites were not even observed as the chariots raced to their objective. What troubles me is the dispute with some translations on Joshua's weapon of preference. The Hebrew gives enough detail that it was a spear which could, in close combat, be as a sword; or at some ground play, be used as a throwing device. A short battle ended in much bloodshed. The kind that was meant for the Israelites.
