“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
King James Version (KJV)
Andrew Opuni-Ampong's comment on 2015-07-21 09:31:49:
God gave man dominion over all His creation. This is not to say man should relegate God to the background, but rather to put God first in everything. Although we can have all things, we should not make things become objects of worship - i.e. take the place of God crowned in us. The substitution of God for things upset the whole course of nature for it is not what God originally intended.

If only God could open our spiritual understanding, then we will see that God loves us, and has giving us Hope, Joy, power and every good things of life not only to subdue, but also, to be fruitful, flourish, multiply and to have dominion over the earth. We have the joy of everlasting, knowing fully well of our father 's gracious gift to the world. if only we can remember this in our challenges and in every faceth of our lives, then it will see that we have nothing to worry about but to keep our head up and be glad always in the Lord...This portion restores my Soul... its an everlasting promise Halleluyah!

how does this Gen 1 28 relate to environment and society
Phumla's comment on 2014-10-07 21:15:17:
I like this verse as it strengthens my faith to God.The power that He gave us to control everything led by Holy Spirit simply show His everlasting love to us.Therefore we are blessed, and we must not doubt that.
P. Jeffrey's comment on 2014-09-18 03:40:53:
Jeff, the meaning of the word blessed as used in Genesis 1 28 is to endow, meaning that, God endowed them with the ability to be fruitful, to multiply and to replenish the earth, not that God knelt before us, rather He God armed us to carry out the assignment He created us for.
Mngisi Lukhele's comment on 2014-05-12 06:25:30:
I especially like the part that tells us to subdue the earth. The devil took away from man the power over the earth. Jesus, our Lord has come to restore us to the glory that existed before sin entered Adam and Eve.
Adriano Munyi Thomas's comment on 2014-03-26 23:51:57:
God gave Adam and Eve six gifts, blessings, multiply, fruitful ,replenish the earth, subdue it and finally have dominion of all God s creations that means God loves Human being more than all His creations including Angels. They were not spared when they sin.Jud.6.Replenish means fill God s lmage and His likeness, goodness, mercy, love, on Earth.Be creative, honest, transparent able to do all things through Christ.Phill. 4. 13.
Allen's comment on 2013-12-22 00:33:24:
The word "replenish" means to replace, usually with more, certainly with something, but definitely something there beforehand. This, along with fossil records and other data, through discernment from the spirit, means that there were beings on the earth prior to Adam and Eve. Void also implies this, as it does not mean "nothing" but rather "wasted". In short, this is the world after the fall of Lucifer from heaven, and God is creating man in order for him to "replenish" it.
M's comment on 2013-12-10 12:06:26:
Replenish means not to destroy the earth, to be environmentally ethical. We are connected to earth. If it goes, we go, no matter how much we try to procreate.
Brill's comment on 2013-11-20 03:27:37:
The explanation to this only need the Holy Spirit to reveal. Normally do not want to rush to talk what I don't know in case I might mislead people. Apart from this issue of 'replenish' there is another question on Ezekiel 28:13 which obviously talks about satan. It says, "You were in Eden the garden of God...". Is this the same garden on earth or it is in heaven?

Bishop uyi's comment on 2013-07-21 20:56:29:
We are to take charge and be masters of every created things on earth. The inability of man to do that is not the fault of God.Man on earth have no excuse of failure,we are to be masters, having dominion to subdue.(legalised divine prosperity)
Janice's comment on 2013-02-08 12:45:11:
I think this is where God created the first humanoids and sent them out to fill the earth with human-like people. In the next chapter he makes Adam and Eve the first people with SOULS. He breaths into Adam and he becomes a "living Soul". He put Adam in the Garden of Eden to dress it, and to go forth and replenish the earth. I think these humanoids are where Adam's and Eve's children found mates.
khangezile Shongwe's comment on 2013-01-16 06:25:54:
God blessed them and through his blessing, he commissioned them to bear fruits meaning they must multiply and cover the Earth and conquer it by having power over it.

Does "subdue" extend to include genetic and weather modification? Is "dominion" a little heavy-handed, like an unconditional license to rape, pillage and plunder? I'm not a Bible expert, but would hope that the big guy placed some limitations on granting this generous scope of authority.

the word replenish there is replace.
jeff's comment on 2012-08-03 05:38:40:
My question is with the what had done when He had "blessed" them ... To bless is to kneel in adoration. Did God kneel before us ? And what is it that specifically could define Blessed in this context.
Joe's comment on 2011-12-05 11:26:52:
to better define the word replenish, go to Strongs Hebrew and Greek lexicon web page, and also for other help in defining words, the translation for replenish there is : to fill, be full, fill and subdue, confirm and consecrate. Use that website in concordance with this one!
Joe's comment on 2011-12-05 10:53:56:
Rory is 100 % correct in his translation, replenish although is used, to imply thatit means to replace, is like saying that theres such a word as plenish when reading this, but plenish is not a word, I gather thai it implies to keep creation going, to cause it to spread, rejuvenate, procreate, as there was nothing here before. Concerning the phrase before the foundations...., that is a reference as to how God sees time, the past, present and future are all one to him. he knew us beforewe were born, he sees us now, and also sees us in heaven with him, all at the same time, all as one!, howver it is up to us whether or not we truly end up in heaven with him in the end (predestination). Read also the first chapter of John, pay close attention to the 1st 5, or 6 verses!
