"bird of the air" can also mean a familiar spirit. I know of a Satanist/wizard which used to send his familiar spirit (aka 'djinn/genie' which is just a fancy word for companion demon) to gather information. Praise be to God that Jesus Christ put an end to the Satanist/wizard's evil and he repented and became a Christian.

Ephesians 2:2 states that Satan is the "...prince of the power of the air...", that would make his demon minions to be of the air too...they are spirits after all.
