“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
King James Version (KJV)

At 1 Corinthians 2:12-15, it describes a spiritual person as one who receives the spirit that is from God. This spirit is God s active force, and its operation is a prerequisite to getting to know spiritual things. A person is thus able to examine and understand issues from a spiritual perspective. By contrast, a person lacking God s spirit is called a physical man, one who considers spiritual things as foolishness. As a result, his conclusions are limited to what human wisdom alone reveals. Hence, while our spiritual capacity stems from being made in God s image, genuine spirituality is not realized through self-awareness, human wisdom, or personal achievement. It requires the influence of God s holy spirit. In fact, those who refuse to be influenced by God s spirit, choosing instead to pursue their own desires and ungodly things, are described as not having spirituality. They are driven by fleshly appetites and inclinations. Awake 12 09

This verse gives insight into why this mortal world is in such a state of un-love towards one another. No matter what race creed or color or which faith you subscribe too. God knows who He made and what he made us for and we can only understand this really by Him 2ND Cor.2-14

This is a clear notice to all men from the inerrant Word of God that man cannot bring something about in himself to come to The Savior, Jesus Christ and be Saved. The Word says that the natural man does not seek after God nor can he even though he is held responsible to do so Lk. 13 3 5 1Cor. 2 14 . Jesus said that we will not come to Him that we might have life John 5 40 . The Word says that we are spiritually dead and incapable of coming to God on our own because dead people don 't hold out their hand or ask for anything of God in a true, Salvific way Rom. 5 5 Eph. 2 5 Col. 2 13 . Just as we did not ask or have any part, whatsoever, in our natural birth, we can have no part in our spiritual birth. That is by and of God John 3 3 12 Eph. 2 1 5 . Therefore, in my view, it is imperative that the Saved pray for those who are dead in their sins continually James 5 16 .

This verse is one of so many which exhibits the timeliness of what untold numbers of people regard as antiquated writings. I am in utter awe how a gracious God has given us His truth, yet how many even realize that, much less attempt to live by it? Oh, how I vividly remember myself as that 'natural man'. I followed the things of satan, therefore anything of God was foolishness to me. Thanks be to God twenty-three years ago, I accepted His free gift of salvation. My life has not been the same since and words cannot express my gratitude to Him for rescuing me- not only from myself as I lived this earthly life given to sin, but from an eternity in hell. I vividly remember as well when I knew and understood that I had spiritual discernment- a whole new world had opened up to me because of a Book- my King James Bible. Now, as I attempt to witness to my two adult brothers who are lost, I see my 'old man' in them- the things I speak are foolishness to them. What is even worse, people who call themselves Christians will debate with me over truths of the Bible, defending the world's view instead of God's. What a sad day we live in, but thankfully we have His promise that His word will not return to Him void.

1 cor 2:14 helps the believer come to terms in his or her own mind with those to whom we have spoken the word of God, and they have rejected the idea of God's Word. It gives us the 'why?' answer we so desire. God's Word is so life changing, so awesome, the non acceptance of it seems impossible to us. It is our responsibility to hold it forth with all our ability, but it is not up to us who receives it and who rejects it. We do our job by speaking it in love.
