Jesse's comment on 2020-05-06 14:23:56:

To dress in moderate apparel comes from what the women were doing in the church. They would put their hair up in what we used to call a "bee-hive" and they would decorate their hair with flashy beads and jewelry in order to be seen. And they would also wear revealing clothing. This was causing a distraction in the church. Basically what it boils down to for the women is that they should not be dressed in a way that would draw attention to themselves and cause a distraction while in the church.

Jesse's comment on 2020-05-06 14:19:32:

Paul was addressing a corrupt church in Corinth. He starts at Verse 3 giving the proper order of the church, being God, Christ, man, and woman.

Verse 4, Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. Who's his head? That's Christ!

In Verse 5, he says, But every woman that prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaved.

Paul gives a command in Verse 6. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

In Corinth, the prostitutes who worked the temple area, you could tell who they were because of their shaved heads. So Paul is talking about a covering for women being a symbol or a representation of the fact that she is in submission to her head who is the husband. The covering was to show your submission to God's order. Paul says if you don't want to do that, you might as well shave your head and be like the rebel prostitutes that are outside.

Verse 7, he appeals to the church. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. That is from Genesis 2:7.

In Verse 14, the word shame means dishonor. It doesn't say he sins. There are people in the church that have long hair and they are told to get it cut because "the bible says it's a sin." No, it doesn't say it's a sin. It says it's a dishonor.

Verse 15, But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her. And notice this, this is the key: for her hair is given to her for a covering.

What covers a woman's head that symbolizes her submission is her hair in Corinth! God gave her hair for a covering. Paul tells the women in Corinth, either shave your head and be like the rebels, or have long hair in Corinth and symbolize your submission to God's order.

He's says that it's a shame for a man to look like a woman and for a woman to look like a man.

I was wondering how to interpret this Holy Bible verse. I think this Holy Bible verse is saying that women need to pray or prophecy with their heads covered. I think that this Holy Bible verse is saying that long hair is considered a covering. I think the Holy Bible also says not to arrange hair with braids and to dress with modest apparel. I was wondering if I needed to wear a hat or scarf around my head to cover my head, but I think this Holy Bible verse is saying that my long hair is a considered a covering. I guess I could read other translations of the Holy Bible to get a better idea about how to interpret this Holy Bible verse. I usually use the New King James Version of the Holy Bible so as to promote unity within the church I attend. May God Bless you and keep you. The New King James Version Holy Bible is a version of the Holy Bible that a class I have been taking at the church I attend uses. The class is called Operation Solid Lives. I hope you have a blessed week! Sincerely in Christ Jesus, -Ann Michelle Warder

First, what does one consider long hair. My hair does not hang down my back so am I to cover my hear in shame. No. Does that make The Most High GOD not love me. Please pray if any man or woman believe that 1Cor 11:14,15 states otherwise. Pray and ask for true meaning of all things...SHALAM

This scripture, like many other contentious verses found in the Bible, were in all likelihood, spoken in jest or as an idle afterthought.

If a woman have long hair it is a glory to her for her hair is given her for a covering The covering here is not d same with the covering in 1corinthians 11 5 The bible made a specification about a woman praying or prophesying should cover her head Let us obey God After the praying or prophesying you can remove the covering and have your long hair which is your covering against been shorn It for your glory not any others

But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. The word covering in this context refers to beauty. It is a glory to her and not covering in lieu for a veil. If the it is for covering then what is the essence of Paul discussing the subject knowing full well that every woman has hair on her head. Paul can not contradict himself.

Constance Scott's comment on 2010-12-30 19:51:41:

This scripture has been used for years as a tool for sin toward woman that cut their hair. I am a Saved woman and just had seventeen inches cut from my head due to having bad headachs. People looked at me as if i had lost my mind. But I know the scripture is used out of content. It siad that if a woman has long hair it is "her" glory not anyone elses glory. It never said its a sin to cut her hair,or that a woman has got to have long hair in order to be or stay saved. Dont get me wrong I think I and most Woman look and like long hair ,but we have to know that God is much bigger and more concerned about better things than this small and unpresidented issue. Now Im not saying that woman ought to go cutting off all their hair because if you have a husband, I believe its something to be talked about with your spouse.Truly let these words I speak to you be my personal thouhgt and some be of truth.Heavenly smiles Constance Scott.
