My father would always tell my mother this, along with bashing her. Now he is accusing her of witchcraft. Lest we forget that god used A woman in his plan too, to bring his son.

I believe that women become contentious when they are not inline with their purpose. Women were formed and given the job of help mate, so when they idle or mislead then they get frustrated and that is when the enemy steps in, and she become contentious.

This is one of the most cut and dry scriptures of the bible. What I get from it is you should stay clear of being in relationships with women that are bad tempered and argumentative, I have been there and done that.

I am of the opinion that if a husband loves his wife sincerely and demonstrates it by his actions, his wil love him back and there wil not be room for nagging except if she has spiritual problem. Nagging most times come as a result of too much suspicion due of transperency in the relationship, but when there is geniune love and transperency, suspicion disppears and every one is happy so angers disapears, the home becomes very conducive to dwell in instead of the wilderness.

I'm cracking up laughing at how TRUE this statement is, yet simultaneously crying because of how true it is in *my* life now.

I'm wondering if I can handle being married to this woman for the rest of my life, and the bible is telling me that ANY life, even one where I shun ALL shelter, food, society, and modern conveniences while having to scratch and hunt for basic sustenance would be better for me, and I'd be happier.

The Word of God is indeed true. As said in Proverbs 21:19 'It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman", this is happening in my life. For all you know, I am like this, but when I heard and understood what is meant by this passage, I realized how I affected the people around me, most especially my husband because he has learned my ways and I felt sad because of what I did. My husband is a peaceful and quiet man, until he learned to be like me, a quarrelsome, debating guy, who keeps to discussing issues with me. I realized, its because of what I did. I told GOD in my solitude how regretful I was of my sin and promised not to be contentious and vexing wife.

I hope you learned something with my story.

Timothy Wayne George's comment on 2013-01-21 05:11:21:

It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with an angry, and contentious woman. The question is what makes a woman angry, and contentious? Solomon knew a lot about women, because he had many wives. Jesus commanded husbands to love their wives, as their own bodies. No one will harm his own body, but instead will care for it, as well as provide what it needs. A woman responds positively to love, and will not be contentious or angry with her husband when she can see that he loves her sincerely. So love your wife as Christ loves the Church, and gave His body for it.

This verse is simply advising man to be separated from a contentious and fretful wife whose character can provoke the man to sin and cause him to miss salvation.
