Dear Elaine, these lwayers were Scribes, the scribblers of Law and they added tradition and human doctrine to it which made life more miserable for the followers of Law but they themselves did not practised what they preached. So such are those that in any position of authority, it might be a parent, a pastor, a husband etcetera looking out for the benefit of their own interests yet they would never accept the conditions if tables were turned.Jesus was teaching us all through these teachings how to have inner purity, To love others as we love ourselves, for that reason alone He died for us all, without a lack of mercy for the haters, the sceptics, the antiChrist, the selfish etc.
