Mary believed what the angel told her. That is why she conceived. When we I hear the word of God and believe and act on it then I have conceived His word and His word will come to pass in my life. The fact that the Holy Spirit Over came upon Mary and the power of the Most High overshadowed her and she became pregnant is the intriguing and amazing part in the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. It had to be through the perfect seed of God himself for Jesus to be born. No human could meet that task. Only the power of God in Christ could defeat Satan and bring back the Creation to God in its perfection and holiness through Jesus.

A holy "thing", sounds unwieldy to me, but that is exactly what my old King James bible says, so I won't argue with it, especially since my salvation depends on it. Praise The Lord, holy is His Name.

There are several modes of being God's son. Lu. 3:38 says "Adam was the son of God". He was God's created son and received his life from God. 1 Jn. 3:2 says "Beloved, now are we the sons of God", (adopted sons through "Christ, who is our life" Col. 3:4). Jesus is the only begotten Son of God because no other human mother ever conceived by a work of the Holy Spirit, without a human father. All descendants of Adam inherited the sin curse and passed it on to their children. As I see it, the only way God could have; adopted human children, is to by-pass the father role and to enter humanity to become a human mediator for us. Through the legal transaction of believing and confessing that God raised His Son Jesus from the dead for (me) anyone becomes God's son and heir along with Jesus(males and females alike). Awesome grace.
