“Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.”
King James Version (KJV)

Erichburg, great Truths you have declared there. Though I see the original question (from nine years ago!), was to do with Jesus position as part of the Deity, yet the Scriptures show Him praying to the Deity, which seems unreasonable. The question is valid, but the understanding of Christ's position in incarnation is defective. I would turn to Psalm 8:5 which is the prophecy alluded to in Hebrews 2:9: "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man." Also Phil 2:6-9.
These verses give us a glimpse: who the Word of God made incarnate is, & was given (by the Father or He took upon Himself voluntarily), some of the limitations of humanity. Jesus was in Heaven (pre-incarnate) as the Word only (some could disagree with me on this). That is, He was not known as Jesus there, but was the Word that proceeded from God, as was the Spirit of God. In His incarnation, he was given the Name of Jesus (Lk 1:31), simply meaning, 'Saviour', which was not His Position pre-incarnation. Therefore, as the man Jesus, Who is the Christ, resorted to His Heavenly Father often in prayer, this seems quite appropriate given His Humanity & His position before God & in the Deity. And I would presume that in His ascended position at His Father's right Hand, He still holds the position of equality with the Godhead, yet as a Son (both human & part of the Godhead). Is this how you understand this?

The way to comprehend and believe all this is to believe that God can do anything because He is the Almighty God, the Creator who created all things, and the only one who has the power to do anything. Don't try to answer these questions or figure this out from a carnal or human standpoint because everything about God is spiritual. That is why Jesus said in John 4:24, "God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." God can be fully man, as Jesus, and fully God, as the Superior Being and Almighty One because He is God. Please read what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:9 -14, that is if you believe the Bible. Jesus came to this world to bring us back to God and to introduce us to the ways of God. He also came to put us back in right standing with God, and it is our faith in Him (Jesus Christ) and what He has done for us that God will receive. I am so glad that I have given my life to Jesus Christ, and I know that the Father hath received me and given me eternal live because of my faith in His Son. I pray that you have or will do the same. The Father and Jesus are one, and while Jesus was here on earth, He pointed us to the Father because His mission was to do the will of the Father and to help everyone to understand that the Father is the author of it all, and that He has given us His name which is Jesus and it the name that is above every name in this world and also the world to come. So stop trying to figure it out with your natural mind and place your trust in Jesus Christ (Romans 10: 9-13), and God by the power of His Holy Spirit will give you wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in how to trust Him and His plan for your life as well as all those who would dare to trust and receive Him. I believe that the God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and He has proven His Himself to us in all three categories because He has the power to do it all. I pray that you will put your faith in Him. I hope to see you in heaven!

thanks you Vdnic,Diane, and Grants for sharing these awesome points I wish to share on very important scripture directly from the lips of Our Lord and Savoir the Son Of Jehovah not God and that 's in Matthew 24:4 "see that no one misleads you ". This was one of the first signs of the end. I pray for all those who have been mislead in believing that Jesus is God what disrespect to Jehovah and Jesus. Jesus came to honor His Father not become or take the position away!

Wesleys Comment is wrong about John14:28. Wesley said, as God, neither is greater or lesser than the other. Funny how Wesley didnt back that statement with an agreeing scripture. But,I found one that supports Jesus belief that his Father is greater that he is, as a man on earth, and as a spirit son of God, where he now sits in heaven at the right hand side of his Father, where he is subject him. 1Corth:15:28

John 1: 18 says" No man has seen God at any time".Many people saw Jesus. John 20:31 says "These have been written down that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God". Jesus was created directly by God having quality similar to those of his father. Psalms 83:18 says Jehovah is the most high. found in KJV New World Translation. Many other translations of the Bible have taken Jehovah out and replaced it with LORD.

how could god be on the earth and in heaven at the same time? who was Jesus praying to in the garden of gethsemane before the died? the verse is matthew 26:39. he said in that verse not my will but your will? who was he talking to himself? you need to learn grammer. Jesus did not pray to himself to ask for help. he prayed to god for help. he if he was god he never would have had to pray for help.why in john 14:28 did Jesus say the father is greater than i am if he is God? That would be like me saying my father is greater than i am but i am my father. who were the christians praying to if God was a man on earth. who were the christians worshiping in heaven if Jesus was on the earth? why would Jesus say to Worship God instead of saying worship me because I am god. get your grammer on.
