I think,the reason why The Jews during this era(not all) is they didn't recognize their Messiah. John the baptist is refreshing what should be,some recognized because of miracles that Jesus did during his earthly ministry, but most did not..knowing the scriptures and understanding it will lead us to recognize who He is...

It is interesting that 2000 years since His first Advent, they are still struggling with Jesus being God. They called it blasphemy then, and would do so now. Yet in His second Advent He will come riding on the clouds, and all kindred on earth will see Him, and they will wail for Him whom they pierced. Receive the Son today, and He will be your Savior.
