... "did not create it in vain, ...formed it to be inhabited ". There goes the theory of millions of years between the creation of the Earth itself and that of MAN. To me this verse is just MORE proof of a young earth. The earth was made by God to be inhabited by PEOPLE!

This scripture really shows how God created the earth to Be man's home! He formed it to be inhabited. Had Adam and Eve not have sinned then certainly they and their children would still be living on earth. Eternal life on a paradise earth, which means no death, which means no heavenly after life.

Note how the Basic English Bible translates this scripture: "who made it not to be a waste, but as a living-place for man". This, along with many other scriptures(Psalms 37:29, Ecclesiastes 1:4, Matthew 6:10, Genesis 2:16,17; 3:19), gives clear, indisputable evidence of God's purpose for the earth.
