“Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.”

I understand why the man would have to marry the women however I don 't understand why the man would have to pay 50 shekels to her father to marry her. I also understand that he should never leave her. why would he have to pay 50 shekles
