When it comes to standards and motives of what we do and say, 3:17 is the yardstick. The purpose of everything we do and say should be to glorify God through Christ Jesus. Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit is our enabler and we should appreciate God always for that. Some of what we do needs extra moral strength and grace: forgiveness, gentleness, perseverance, loving ones enenmies and patiance for instance; without due recourse to the source of power, such couldnt be done at all. This is where the world fails and baffles at christains.

Two, "without me you can do nothing," Jesus said, so in His name we receive the power to do everything unhindered, because only in his name power is, unto salvation and performance.

The verse is to help believers have a renewed mindset to influence what they do and say by way of standards: Chrsit is righteous and everything done and said in his name should be no lesser. Be it office work, shopping, household chores, conversation, scientific and technical endeavours.... having Jesus at the back of ones mind makes a great difference on how you approach everything in life.

We are disciples of Jesus what ever we do should glorify God through Jesus ( 1 Co 10:31), or should be a light (Mathew 5:16 ) shinning in a world at pitch darkness of sin and wickedness. This is one of my several memory scriptures after planning all for the day, meditation upon it keeps me in fellowship without to much ado.
