Anathema:Cursed Maranatha:The Lord Cometh We are in this world but not of this world John 11:25 He that believes in Christ although we were dead yet shall we live. John 16:16 He that believeth on me and is baptized holy ghost the same shall be saved and he that believeth not shall be damned cursed Even though we cannot see a visible Jesus Christ we must believe through faith that he was, he is and he forever shall be, otherwise we 've cursed ourselves because we don 't believe!!!

Well, my wife Greek Cypriot says she thinks it is a corrupted translation. In her Greek bible "maranatha " but in greek alphabet is given as two separate words: maran atha, which she says means separated from. So to her mind the verse means "let him be cursed and separated from the Lord .

Since cursing those who err does not seem to fit the new testament gospel, I have attempted to find another interpretation. In the Analytical Gr. Lexicon, Anathema leads to anatithema. Under this word, ana-thema is shown as a compound word. The Gr. "ana" is defined as :through the midst of: ie.throughly or thoroughly. Themelios a relative of "thema" is defined as :to lay a foundation:. In 1 Cor. 3:10, Paul says "I have laid the foundation". The word for foundation is themelion. Maybe a better wording for 1 Cor. 16:22 and Gal. 1:8 would be to thoroughly teach those who err in order to lay a true foundation for faith and doctrine. We are to bless and not curse.
