"Never to die again " clarifies the comment that Chris was the FIRST of a great harvest to be risen from the dead.

Jesus Christ is the " first-fruits" because he is the first to have risen from the dead never to have died again. Others had been risen from the dead before him, see Lazarus ; but who again at later dates died again. Jesus Christ is the first to have arisen from the dead never to have died again.
