1 Corinthians 14:20-22

King James Version

20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Don't be childish, immature, untaught, or ignorant about tongues. Tongues were important in the early church as God transitioned from the Jews to the Gentile/Church, but afterward ceased because God was no longer using them as a sign to the Jews.

Its apparent when the enemy steps in and suggests something that contradicts our Lord....Hath God said?

Unfortunately, Men have allowed their flesh instead of the Holy Spirit to Reveal to them what Paul is saying. God didn't say Wonen couldn't be Pastor's or Speak in the "Church" Paul wS speaking to the Church if Corinth and Timothy was speaking to the Jews that had allowed the women to usurp authority due to their carnal behavior! Through out the OT/NT God has used Women and then Galatians 3:28 is very Clear that God is okay with Women Pastor's, The Samaritan woman and Jesus interaction at the Well open the door for the 20th and 21st century to finally allow Wonen to Walk in the 5 fold Ministry today! God gave that permission not Paul. Paul was chastising the "Church" because the women there, was out of control. That's why the Disciples didn't question Him/Jesus! Deborah, Esther, Phoebe and many other Women are recognized in Scripture. Mariam was a Prophetess! Don't be deceived by the enemy, that God barred the Women from Pastoring God's flock and Winning Souls for the Kingdom of God. Roman's 10:12, Colossians 3:11...Amen

1 Timothy 2:11-13: "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve."

The Scripture actually is Paul speaking to Timothy about his ministerial responsibilities & not Timothy speaking to the Jews. This is nevertheless a clear directive based on the order of creation: even though Adam & Eve were created equal in every respect, yet God chose the order of creation, that Adam (man) be created first under God & then Eve, under man. In society, this order can have some bearing, but in the Church, that order must be followed: that man has been given the authority to lead God's people & to teach them accordingly. Women have not that privilege, but have doubtless played vital roles in the Church (as you have shown) & as helpers to Paul & Timothy & others.

Your reference to Galatians 3:28, Romans 10:12 & Colossians 3:11, are indications of a woman's equality to men & particularly as those 'in Christ'. They have nothing to do with the order within Christ's Church. Any evidence of a woman usurping that position, is contrary to God's order & requirement. It was never seen in the NT Church nor evidence in the Church subsequent. This is new phenomenon: from about the 1900s this came to be evident (I may be corrected on this date), as the emancipation movement of women grew & with the advent of the world wars, there were fewer men to lead the Church. But this was never from biblical design & ought to have been corrected but unfortunately has increasingly become the norm in some Churches & it has been accepted with disregard to Divine instruction. And lest you think that I have something against women as leaders, I do not. In many instances (both secular & religious), women actually do a better job than men, but that doesn't give permission to re-interpret God's Word.

God is clear about the topic. And so I am also clear. If I have said something that offends you please be clear.

I have no comments on women preacher/

or teachers. Although everyone agrees that God called Deborah to be a judge. Other women were prophetesses.

I was responding to the gay/ homosexual comment. Pardon me.

Michael Reidy's comment on 2020-05-07 21:14:44:

Thank you for the valuable instruction although it had no substance to topic. Women speaking in Church.

If people will read Genesis very slowly; note chronological events that match; it will make more sense. It takes more work on your part; and this generation is the NOW generation. I want it now and I don't want to work for it.

Also: the center columns are references to the alphabet or numbers that are within the verses. They expand the understanding of those verses.

At the entrance to this website is a search box. Bring up the verse you want answers to: then scroll down to the Commentary box. Lots of info in that.

Study to show yourself approved. So many subjects will be opened up to you, you'll really be blessed by your discoveries. You'll want to share them right away.

Sometimes you'll have to use google to find a verse you can't remember the words to.

Better yet, ask the Holy Spirit to help you study :D

Michael Reidy's comment on 2020-05-07 10:29:26:

Unfortunately, we have professing Christians who dont trust what Paul is writing came from God. They say those words are for differnt times in history. "Surely God knows, letting a woman speak in Church will be lovely and intertaining t the heart and pleasing to the eyes. Surely God must be confused about this?

Is God confused about Gay marriage too or/same sex marriage?

Is God confused about Abortion as well or is he only confused about what Paul said about woman? LOL...do you see the stupity in man / woman?

John's comment on 2015-10-27 03:17:19:

Women are speaking in the churches nowadays. The last time i attended church I saw a woman at the podium fulfilling what looked like the role of a male pastor. Anyway I thought was unusual, and this verse came to mind. Political correctness has invaded the church, but that means Jesus's return is imminent. Trust in christ for salvation today, human wisdom has completely failed in these end times.

Becky's comment on 2014-12-08 22:30:25:

Women prophesier 's existed and are welcome to prophecy. Can it be that there are times when it is ok and times when it is not ok speak.Didn 't Jesus tell Mary to go and tell that he is risen? So there are times when it is acceptable. We should teach our children, we have our hands full enough and men should take the lead at church. So men get some more men into church.

Rob's comment on 2014-12-01 12:00:45:

How do we argue with the following? 1Co 14 37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. What is all the discussion about...let God be True every man a lire. Let 's look at how we can live harmoniously with Gods Word. Submit to God resist the devil he will flee from you!

Nothing but the Truth's comment on 2014-11-29 09:02:32:

Many times in recent yrs women friends of mind in the Lord have approached me to visit their churches which have women Pastors, and trust me, these women are so called Bible loving Christians who know the Word of God. I 've more than once been tempted to visit some of these churches, but something within me the Holy Spirit has held me back. For the simple reason that the LORD has said in several verses that women are not to have spiritual leadership over the flock! and personally I have no problem at all with obeying this command. For me political considerations should NEVER super impose themselves above the word of GOD, period! end of discussion! Amen.

Ekun Adekunle's comment on 2014-04-13 01:09:24:

That a man has a loud voice, sweet words etc does not concern God where he has spoken. It is either you are the scriptures or a hypocrite. "let your women keep silence in the churches ". What is hard in this? Simple English. But the pride and foolishness of man has led to various arguments. Those wrest the word of God will be destroyed. This is no joke. They are false prophets

I think it is so sad that so many people who call themselves Christians rebel against scriptures that are not politically correct Paul isn t saying anything new here but I guess rebelling isn t anything new either

Mary's comment on 2013-10-04 02:16:11:

Thank you! I appreciate m ike's comment as well as Zablon's word that "God's Word is settled". As for me, I will be glad to keep silent, knowing that in this way I am submitting and obeying God and the pastor as well as honoring the order of worship and, in my own quiet way, pleasing the Lord. I needed this. God bless you for speaking the truth in love.

Ron Booth's comment on 2013-08-29 07:20:17:

I believe that the fact that 1st Corinthians 14:33 states that "God is not the author of confusion" may shed some light. I also believe Proverbs 4:7 which states "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." Therefore, I will seek more understanding of how God would have me interpret this verse.
